Calidora Upright Elephant Ear

This plant has scientific name of Alocasia Calidora. The leaves are considered ‘colossal’ as the leaves can exceed a person’s height. The leaves have arrowhead shape that can grow up to 6 feet in height.

They also have ribbed textures. This one can grow in full sun or complete shade.

Alocasia Zebrina

This is another compact elephant ear plant types that is ideal for indoor setting. The stems are thick and they have unusual patterns: they are spotted like the leopard. The leaves have arrowhead shape and waxy (and thick) appearance with faint (and almost light appearance) vein markings.

 

Because of its unique appearance, it is called Alocasia Zebrina Tiger or Alocasia Leopard. This plant is able to grow fast, especially in humid and warm conditions. If you grow one in a potting soil, make sure that it is moist to boost maximum growth.

Giant Elephant Ear

Another name for this plant is the Colocasia Gigantea Thailand Giant. The leaves aren’t only rounded with heart shape appearance, but they are also enormous. The color can be bluish green. The leaves can grow up to 5 feet of width and 4 feet of length (6 feet would be the maximum). This ornamental (foliage) plant is super ideal for big garden having tropical theme.

It’s also possible to grow this plant in water gardens or big containers, but be sure that the condition is soggy. It’s not just moist, but soggy. This plant isn’t really ideal for indoor setting because it can grow up to 10 feet in height, and let’s not forget the width too! You need a lot of space for this plant.

Colocasia Esculenta Black Magic

This is one of the unique elephant ear plant types with purple and black colors. The leaves are drooping. In most cases, the dark purple hue may look velvety black. The leaves have the arrowhead shape and it can grow to 2 feet of length.

It’s similar to the Taro plant, but with darker hue. The dark color delivers quite unique effect and stunning appearance. Plant it in moist soil and partial sun. Consider growing one in big containers or streams and ponds.

Angel Wings

This Caladium Candidum plant has arrowhead leaves with dominated white hue and dark green network patterns. The color and pattern can deliver nice contrast effect, especially when compared to other foliage.

This plant grows in completely full shade and it’s great for dark space. Unfortunately, it can’t withstand the frost. If you live in colder areas, you may want to grow it in containers.

Xanthosoma Lime Zinger

This elephant ear type has arrowhead leaves, with bright green color and yellowish vein. The leaves can grow up to 1.5 feet in length and the clumped foliage won’t exceed the 4 feet in height.

Make sure that it grows in partial shade so the color will stay vibrant. Aside from the garden plant, it’s also great for deck or patio plant.
