You see, this plant likes water, but not too much. It is able to tolerate water pool, but it doesn’t mean that you should drown your plant with water. The best way to deal with the water is to make sure that the soil is moist, but not soggy or even up to being wet! Touch the soil. If it’s moist, then good. In most cases, you only need to provide enough water once a day. But there are some cases, where you need to water the plant several times a day. That’s why it’s advisable that you check the condition of the soil several times in a day until you can formulate the proper and suitable watering schedule.

If you plant the elephant ear indoor, you won’t have to worry about drafts or winds. But pay attention to the proper placement if you plant it outdoor. The leaves are quite delicate and sensitive so make sure that you shield the plant from them. If you place it indoor, it shouldn’t be located close to heaters, AC, or fans. Make sure that the same location can get bright and indirect sun. It’s okay to let the plant gets direct sun for several hours, but it should be shaded or sheltered (from the sun) afterwards. The ideal sun exposure for this red elephant ear plant would be in the morning or in the evening.

Pay attention to the soil too. The ideal one would be the well-draining and rich soil. It is also great if you can use the loosely packed type. There is a packed houseplant mix in case you want one for indoor setting. Or if you can find chunky and porous type (such as river sand, coco chips, crushed bark, or perlite), feel free to do it too. Gardeners also suggest dung manure, compost, coco peat, or peat moss to ensure proper growth and successful outcome.
